You should watch the documentary “Murderball”. It’s about young men who have overcome similar obstacles to play wheelchair basketball. It’s gritty and funny and shows how they are young men dealing with a disability, not young men defined by that disability. It was nominated that year for an Oscar as best documentary but got beaten by “March of the Penguins”. Frankly, cute as penguins are, I thought the human beings beat them hollow.

I agree 100 percent on Penguins vs Murderball! We saw it too and thought the same thing! My son’s best friend started wheelchair basketball a couple years ago and now has a tournament in Richmond this weekend. I wrote about him in the Post when he was in high school and lost the ability to walk, he’s now a senior in college. Should I go there and write about it? Is this something you think readers would like?

Please do write about your son’s best friend. We all need to hear about people like him. I look forward to reading it.

Thanks for this post about the extraordinary Paralympic athletes. Paralympics should be an integral part of the Olympics and celebrated at least as much, for the reasons you note.

Thanks for reading. And YES! I always wished they'd be an integral part of the main Olympic Games...maybe there are logistical reasons or maybe the paralympic athletes would rather have separate games...but I do think they get less celebration this way. I'm so excited to keep watching.

These athletes are so inspiring and just the kind of people I want to focus on right now. Thanks so much for highlighting them.

Thank you for reading! I guess I sort of knew that these stories were there, but wow, once I delved into them and read their profiles -- wow! There is so much there I was unaware of and they are truly extraordinary.
